Pebbles of the playground past

Pebbles of the play ground past

Back through the alleys
Memories meet time.
My first confident paddle on a bicycle
Clutters at the old stone wall.
Unrepaired pavements preserve
skipping legacies
Tripped over to gift
A permanent scar on both the knees.
Lores of victories or losses still quarrel
And part for no time.
Spirits of a kite runner,
A seeker and his crew
Hurry and hide among the crowd.
A balloon’s breath recaptured-
Ice cream cold,
Colored local candies,
Marinated berries-
Melts in the mouth of sweet memory.
Galleries swell,
The match goes on,
In the ground
of continuity.

Of Sylvia Plath

She was a topic when first I knew her;
A desperate woman who gave flowers like tulips
The throb of life, smell of blood –
Only to irritate me.
Her hysteria gave vomiting sensations
And a dislike for all I loved in poetry.
Later, I took to writing.
Seeds of my thoughts became poems;
Words chorused miniature dramas,
Punctuations breathed me in and out,
And now they are- not much,
B’coz  I was left with no scope.
She had overdone everything  I meant to do;
She wrote of my Daddy,my Morning Song  ,
My Mirror and all I could ever reflect.
I had read and learned her poems,true !true!
But now I fear, I have begun to understand her.
Its like living her miserable life,
The rest of which she denied herself.
The color of tulips burns me day and night,
Leaving me to everything I hated to be.
I struggle to endure.
Perhaps there is a correction
She attempts to make in her poetry;
And mine too.
Perhaps, in our combined souls...

Remembering a hero

Ulysses, I remember u!

The love for adventure that u are;

The quest for newer horizons

Untiring, unyielding, willful heart,

An eager soul that never got quenched.

Your national pride didn’t stain your mind;

Nor did the golden strings of your kin;

Tears dare not tear away your years of fulfillment.

I too had your spirit inside........once on a long past..

I found boats untied and driven away,

Oars broken and thrown to depths,

And swim, shamefully I never knew...

I stay back in the island which you left for good

I have the sweet company of people

Who blindly worship the ‘unequal laws ’.

Gratitude gurgles in most part of my days

I enjoy being the tamed wild beast of Ithaca.

I have buried alive a soul inside

The ghost of which escapes secretly

To give me pain, to watch me wither

I live in constant fear.

A weakling though,

With lack of character,

My poor soul makes me remember you,

And often do I wonder

What you found on your way?

What I could possibly have found,

Now the glimpses at least would please me

To think of a lost journey, a lost life

Ulysses , remembering you, I live back in time.

A commercial Break

A COMMERCIAL BREAK

Rain takes a commercial break.
A grasshopper springs out from nowhere.
It hops,
Hops to the left,
Then right,
On to the stem,
At the tip,
Down to the ground,
Over mounts of green....
A few leaps afar
It rests.
Green.
For a while eyes go green.
Up he goes and down.
Hops,hops,
Hops away to the green.
Rain returns.
Eyes haven’t.

Sisters

We were always together and different.

That was good.

Miles we travelled, while we chose;

Our decisions,

Drifting apart,

Our company

Lost between extremities;

Changed.

Beyond the blurred years

You wrote,

Unaware of which

My pen too frequented over a few lines.

We read each other with surprise.

Our verses remain the same –

Different.

We understood

Overcoming a speechless pain,

We remain different;

We are complementary;

We are still together;

Sisters;

Daughters of the same mother

Who holds us together,

In life and lines

When we think of her,

We remain.

To Mother

Yesterday,

Like many other nights,

I was sick - for you;

Holding on to you

I felt the fear, the pain –

of missing you,

Your touch, scolding’s,

Prayers and tears –

Only for me.

Even when there wasn’t much

that I shared with you,

I knew,

You knew me better.

Pa still remains my God.

But secretly as a pagan keeps faith,

I have you in me treasured.

In some nameless moment

I discovered

how much I am an extension

of you.

I feel proud.

But this will happen,I know,

I am going to miss you,

Mother,

I love you.

Morning Delights

Whenever a bud blooms
I smile.
Whenever I smile
blossom withers.
Though I mean to be the rain,
I end up as the sun.

Life-giver,
when burn myself and keep away;
Even a slight approach
brings destruction.
Therefore I love –
An extreme, distanced way of parenting.

Whenever a bud blooms
I pretend to be still asleep
and smile secretly;
Often wiping a tear
that slides down to kiss
the soft petals..

They call it a dewdrop
and are happy.

Glass bangles

Glass bangles of every color
slipped off the hands and broke.
Glitter of gold entices wrists;
Proud icons weigh heavily upon the heart.

Though easily broken
I still remain
the simple glass bangle
that adorns heart and dreams..
